Outside Fun and Teeth

On Friday morning, the older boys and I got to enjoy some time outside while Baby P napped.

C put a bug in his acorn collecting container and brought it over to me. After explaining that it looked like a harmless bug and we should leave it alone, he proceeded to still stomp on it. (So little impulse control.) The bug did not survive the stomp. So, here is C listening intently as I explained why we probably should not have killed that bug.

Here are the brothers collecting acorns...
Playing t-ball...

But after a while, it was time to go inside...
Oh, so hungry and tired!

Oh, yes - one more photo. Look closely at smiling Baby P and you can see 2 bottom teeth...

O.k., that's hard to see. We'll zoom in...

I'm not surprised he has 2 teeth already since C and L got there first teeth at 4 months. But the speed at which time is passing does not cease to boggle my mind. C is now 4, L will be 2 tomorrow and P is 5 months old. Wow!

A poem called Song for a Fifth Child by Ruth Hulburt Hamilton posted today on MckMama's blog helps illustrate how 'babies don't keep'.

Happy 5 Months and Waffles for Dinner

Happy 5 Months Sweet Baby P!

------------------------------------------------------------

It's no secret. I don't really love cooking. There are just too many other things I would rather do! And maybe it's not so much the cooking, but the clean up. Oh yes, and the certain boys who are either so hungry as I'm cooking or decide that when I'm cooking dinner is the perfect time to play in the kitchen. Well - at least they are playing and not fighting. :) So, do you ever have breakfast for dinner? We do! Last night was one of those nights. I made waffles (yes, from scratch) and eggs for dinner.
I got the recipe for the waffles from here on the Food Network website.

Ingredients
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/8 teaspoon fine salt
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 1/2 cups milk, at room temperature
2 large eggs, at room temperature, separated
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted, plus more for brushing the iron
1 large egg white, at room temperature
1/4 cup sugar
Serving suggestions: Maple syrup, jam, fresh fruit, or yogurt

Directions
Preheat a waffle iron to medium-high.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, egg yolks, vanilla, and 1/4 cup melted butter. Whisk the milk mixture into the flour mixture until a batter is formed. Take care not to over mix the batter.
In medium bowl, with a hand-held electric mixer or whisk, whip the 3 egg whites until they just begin to hold a loose peak. Scatter the sugar over the whites and continue beating until they hold a soft peak. Using a rubber spatula, fold a third of the egg whites into the batter to lighten the base. Fold in the remaining whites.
Brush the inside surface of the iron with butter. Pour in enough batter to lightly cover the surface of the iron, about 1/3 to 3/4 cup, depending upon the size of the iron. (Take into consideration that the batter will spread once the lid is closed.) Cover and cook until golden brown and slightly crisp, about 5 minutes. Repeat with the remaining batter. (If the waffle iron is well seasoned or nonstick it is not necessary to brush the inner surface each time before cooking the waffles.)
Serve the waffles immediately with syrup, jam, fresh fruit, or yogurt.

Yummy!

A Little of This...A Little of That

I'll start with "Not Me" Monday.
What's that, you ask? Well, read on.

I did not lay in bed this morning after all 3 boys were awake semi pretending I was still sleeping. I then did not proceed to listen to them play and go into the baby's room (they could hear he was awake also) to tell him "Good Morning!" I did not do this for a few minutes before I finally decided I should probably get out of bed to tell my lovies "Good Morning!" No, not me!

I did not go out with my mom today to look for shoes for our middle son, only to remember...Hey! Maybe I should actually have checked to see what hand-me-downs we have from our firstborn! No, not me! Because my memory never fails me...no, not me!
See, isn't that fun?! To read more (and see some great photos) visit MckMama's website listed at the right sidebar.
---------------------------------------------------
We'll move on to the subject of toddlers next. Wait, how long do I have?!
Sometimes I forget our son, L, is a toddler. I suppose I think of him as older sometimes - 4 years old- like his older brother. Well, he surely reminded me..."I am toddler, hear me roar!!!" You know how toddlers like to do things on there own? Not only does L love to do things on his own, if I happen to help him in the least bit, he proceeds to scream and complete the task over again. Oh yes, this makes getting into the car seat really exciting. Ha!

Oh! And he's been able to say the "Owww" for a while now. It's just that now he uses it almost every time he's upset. So....it sounds like I'm hurting the poor boy all day long! Ha!

I do remind myself that, with kids, so much of what they do is a phase and "This too shall pass." Which is good and bad.
Soon, L won't be a toddler any more. Before I know it, he'll be four!!!

Firstborn, C Speak:
Tonight at dinner, C's prayer included (among thanks for the day, famawee=family & besawings=blessings) thanks to God for going under water! Husband & I nearly busted out laughing! Where do they get this?!

------------------------------------------

Something on P, our baby:

C & L had no trouble taking the bottle when they were babies. But, sweet P...well, he's another story. He did take it early on, but we haven't 'practiced' in a while. His is not having it, nope, not one bit. While I took the older boys to the playground, my mom came over today to spend some time with the baby. She tried (for an hour!) to give him a bottle. Thankfully, P was not really mad - except of course when the bottle was actually in his mouth. Well, thanks for trying mom! Guess my idea of working a little here & there may have to wait...And that's o.k.

Welcome

I created this blog for 3 main reasons.

1) To journal happenings of and with our boys

2)To keep family & friends (who are interested) posted on our happenings.

But wait...I did say 3 reasons, didn't I? Well, the I'm going to keep the third reason to myself...at least for now. Muahaha...No really, it's a good reason.

What a better way to start off the blog then with some photos of our boys?!

Thought For the Day

Do you ever feel like you are comparing yourself to others or saying "If only___, then ____"? I know I do. It's easy to fall into that trap. And I think as women it's even harder. We compare looks, our kids, things, homes, activities, etc., etc., etc. I know one thing I've found myself thinking lately is "A bigger home would be great...especially now that there are 5 of us!" But, with God and my husband's help, I've realized that it's just really not that important. Instead of the house, I now try my best to focus on the my husband and our 3 boys...on making a home for the 5 of us! I've had three wonderful pregnancies and three healthy (and o.k., o.k. beautiful) baby boys. What a blessing!

I cannot take credit for the following thought. A friend of mine from my Mentoring Moms group (at Oak Hills church) shared it as we were talking about this very topic.

"There is nothing wrong with wanting nice things. But just remember ...we were
not meant to build kingdoms here on Earth."

Wow! That takes some weight off my shoulders. How about you?
